With the Candis corporate credit card, you pay for your company’s business expenses – both in the office and on the go. To ensure that the card is used exclusively for business purposes, Candis restricts certain merchant categories.

Visa assigns every merchant a Merchant Category Code (MCC). The MCC describes the merchant’s primary line of business. Based on this code, Candis decides whether a payment with the corporate credit card is permitted.

Why are certain merchant categories excluded?

Candis restricts specific merchant categories for two main reasons:

Preventing private use
Some merchant categories primarily relate to personal expenses. To prevent private use of the Candis corporate credit card, Candis declines payments at these merchants.

Minimizing fraud risk
Certain merchant categories carry a higher risk of fraud or misuse. In these cases, Candis either restricts payments or blocks them entirely.

The classification is based solely on the Merchant Category Code (MCC) assigned to the merchant by Visa. Candis does not evaluate individual products or services offered by a merchant.

Please find below a brief overview of the merchant types that are not allowed:

  • Pharmacies

  • Cigar stores and stands

  • Gambling

  • Trading and other payment providers

  • Adult entertainment

  • Physical therapy and massage providers

  • Telemarketing

  • Medical offices / Hospitals

  • Automated fuel dispensers

Payment attempts to these merchant types are declined immediately.

The declined transaction can be viewed in Candis in real-time, together with decline reason.
